For children over 20 months and up to 4 years. Development is really bounding forward for many children. Their touch sensations are so well developed that nappies, if not out now, will be by 3 years of age.
Hand development is quite dramatic at this stage, with good control of pencils/crayons. They enjoy puzzles and more complicated activities with the use of eyes to guide the hands. Movement of individual fingers is still restricted, but they are more able to participate in finger plays.
Sessions at this age are geared for the development of sensory integration and consequent laterality. Using limbs individually. The ball and small equipment activities at this stage require far greater skills than previously. Dances are sequential now, in an endeavour to help children move and think. Some of our songs and exercises are still quite slow to allow their new body awareness to be perfected.
