Koalas have generally mastered walking and are strengthening their skills through numerous activities. They are becoming confident climbers and are experimenting with jumping, balancing and concept words like in front, behind, up, down and around, which are critical for successful learning at school.
This stage of development is bi-lateral, meaning both sides of the body are working in coordination. By 18 months, toddlers have wonderful skill with their hands- they have improved focus and control.
The two year old year is an important year of change in behaviour, speech and fine motor skills. The Koala stage sets the ground work for the transition into the next stage of development- laterality.
